What is a laser light show?

A laser light show can mean two different things: Primary meaning is the "Laser show", emphasing here that it's a show in the visible color spectrum. The other meaning of "laser light show" sepcifies the actual projection unit. In this case the term defines the medium and the effect at the same time.

Other terms for laser light show

This terminology is not too common, usually "laser light", "show laser" or "laser display" are used for defining the actual hardware projection system instead of laser light show.
The "result", meaning the effects in a certain context, are commonly defined as "laser show".

Laser light show = the show effect

Laser shows utilize the visibility of laser light. Most show lasers with different colored laser sources come with the colors red, green and blue which make them to so-called RGB lasers. Laser projectors with OPSL modules often provide cyan and orange, rarely lime for a bigger color gamut.
Thanks to laser light impressive laser effects are possible. Depending on the scanning system demanding animations and graphics projections are able to tell whole stories with impressive pictures. Most popular is the so-called audience scanning with laser beams projected directly into the audience. Important: local safety insctructions must be consideres and observed.

Examples of laser light shows

Laser light show = laser projector

A laser projector is a device for displaying animations and graphics with laser beams onto a screen. Besides laser sources like diodes, DPSS, OPSL or gas lasers in earlier times, a laser projector must contain galavanometer scanners. Therefore the laser projector is able to move its laser light beam to createlaser images on projection surfaces like walls, ceilings, fog or haze.
Laser projector is also used as synonym for the laser light itself. Other terms are e.g. laser display, show laser and even laser show is used to describe a laser device.

What is a Laser Rainbow?

A laser rainbow defines a multi colored beam or layer projection with show laser light systems, that has the colors in the rainbow order. This kind of projection is usually done outdoor and can reach for many kilometers. Laser rainbows are a nice and attractive effect and are widely visible.

What show laser is the best for a Laser Rainbow?

All high power multi-color laser systems that Laserworld offer are capable to do this kind of effect (reach depends on laser power, beam specifications and software settings).
Especially RTI NANO laser systems are often used to create rainbow effects over several kilometers in many different colors.
Laserworld did a Laser Rainbow in Aalen, Germany, but many other customers already did too. See for yourself:

What is laser light?

Laser light defines a laser beam in the visible spectrum (between 400 and 700nm wavelength). Often the term is used to describe a projection system emitting laser beams in the visible laser spectrum.  Laser (“Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation”) creates and amplifies electromagnetic radiation of a specific frequency through the process of stimulated emission. Laser light systems create sharp light beams, highly focused over long distances. Like laser lighting displays, laser lights are used as an entertainment medium. Single and multi-color laser lights allow for effects such as animated images and patterns. Impressive laser shows can be produced by adding more different media, such as smoke, fog, video projections or water screens.

Other terms for laser light

The term "Laser light" is synonymously used for "Show laser", "Laser display" or even "Laser show" (meaning the laser projector unit here).
Sometimes they are also called "Entertainment laser".

What makes laser light particularly good for show purposes?

Laser shows utilize the visibility of laser light. Most show lasers with different colored laser sources come with the colors red, green and blue which make them to so-called RGB lasers. Laser projectors with OPSL modules often provide cyan and orange, rarely lime for a bigger color gamut.

Popular locations for laser light

Despite laser shows on e.g. festivals, discos, bars, clubs, wedding ceremonies, birthdays, etc., laser light is nowadays more and more used as car headlights.

What is a landmark laser?

Show laser systems are used as landmark lasers to highlight a specific location to be seen from a long distance.
The wording "landmark laser" is mainly used in Asian countries. In Europe and in the USA the terms "Sky Laser", "Skylaser" or "Sky beam laser" are more common.

Which show laser is best used as a landmark laser?

Landmark lasers need high power and a low divergence to be visible from a far distance. Show laser systems with OPSL modules will suit best as landmark lasers as they offer the best beam divergence and are often sold with very high power. Concerning the laser color, green laser source are better visible than other colors.

For what purpose do I need a landmark laser?

Any time you want to highlight an object or a location and high visibility over long distances is needed, landmark lasers will fit best. E.g. clubs in rather countrified areas can be seen from big highways thanks to high power laser systems.

What does Laser Show mean?

The term "Laser show" can define two different things: In most cases it means an entertainment event where the laser effects provide a show (music synchronous or without music). Sometimes the term is also used to define the actual laser projection system.

What are different types of Laser Shows?

Laser shows are usually defines as laser projection with choreography. There are two different types: Pre-programmed laser shows and live laser shows.
Both are completely different approaches of working with lasers and the right solution always depends on the customer's requirements. In nightclubs the laser systems are run as live laser show, whereas corporate events usually rely on pre-programmed, music and/or video synchronous  laser shows.
You can also distinguish beam shows from graphics shows: A beam show projects laser beams into the room. With additional fog or haze the beams become more visible and create fascinating effects, like tunnels and 3D-effects.
A graphics show displays patterns, animations and graphics on a projection surface like walls, ceilings, water screens or even mountains.

What is a laser effect?

Most show lasers come with integrated lighting effects which are displayed automatically or manually. Such laser effects are generated through scanning systems, stepping motors, grating grids, mirrors or glass gobos.

What is a common laser effect?

Popular effects of a showlaser are e.g. stars, 3D, patterns, twists, tubes, grids, waves, duplication and graphics.

How are laser effects displayed?

Especially budget show laser systems provide an automatic mode to play laser effects without further control need. In this mode the laser light changes the patterns and effects itself. Particularly suited for beginners without any knwoledge in laser show software.
Other lasers have a music mode available and display laser effects synchronously to sound and noise, such as music, clapping, cheering.
Professional laser lights come with interfaces and laser show software support for individual choice of laser effects.

Where are laser effects integrated?

Favored venues for lasers with lighting effects are e.g. mobile use, parties, clubs, discos and the private use.

What is the best Laser Projector for my venue?

That depends strongly on the size of your location. The bigger the more output power your laser projector should provide. If you consider to use your laser outoors you should either look for a show laser with a wheather housing or a laser light with a housing that is wheatherproof according to its IP class. For displaying quickly changing animations and demanding graphics, the laser display needs fast scanning systems with quality drivers.

What else do I need for my Laser Projector?

For projecting laser animations you'll need a projection surface like walls, ceilings, fog, haze, water screen or with a powerful laser device even mountains can be a proper projection surface for displaying graphics, logos, texts, etc.

What is a Laser Projection?

Laser projection means animations and graphics that are displayed on projection surfaces with a laser display. For displaying such laser projections a show laser system needs galvanometer scanners that move the laser beam so fast that the eyes of an observer see an animated laser picture.

What do I need for a proper Laser Projection?

That depends strongly on the size of your location. The bigger the more output power your laser projector should provide. If you consider to use your laser outoors you should either look for a show laser with a wheather housing or a laser light with a housing that is wheatherproof according to its IP class. What is laserlight?

Laserlight is another spelling for laser light. See the definition of laser light.

What is a Laserist?

A laserist designs, creates and controls a laser show. A laserist needs at least a show laser projector. For programming own laser shows, he uses special laser show software. When doing live laser shows, the laserist needs a laser show control console, like a computer or a light desk to select different patterns, graphics, animations and beam variations. But the laserist not only sets up and operates the whole laser show, he is also in charge of observing local safety regulations.

How can I become a Laserist?

There is no special education for laserists at the moment. Most laserists start as hobby laser users and become laserists over the years. Buying the first budget show laser system leads to another laser projector together with a show programming software and so on. Practice, practice, practice.

What is a LaserMan?

A LaserMan is a show performer who dances inside a laser suit and among laser beams. The LaserMan and the laser beams will move synchronous to music to amuse the audience.

What is a Laser Suit?

A laser suit has many glowing lights on it and several small laser lights inside the palms or attached to the suit. A laser suit is not necessarily needed by a LaserMan but will improve the show significantly.

In its basic form, the master/slave concept derives from information technology and regulates the communication and management of access rights. In the field of event technology, master/slave refers to the automation or synchronisation of lighting fixtures or show lasers of the same model that communicate with each other via DMX512. One device is always configured as "master", while one or multiple devices are configured as "slave". The slave devices receive their control signal from the master device and behave identically, which means they output the same laser show as the master device. Therefore, all devices must contain the same content and use the same DMX layout.

All Laserworld show lasers with an integrated ShowNET support master/slave operation. The master/slave mode can be selected in music mode and demo mode.
