Show Laser Safety

Laser safety is an important issue while dealing with laser systems. Laser radiation can cause damage on eyes, skin and textiles. Therefore it is important to regard the safety instructions on the laser devices and in your laser manuals. Laserworld offers different laser safety equipment, for example safety buttons, safety units, cables and goggles and also arrangesLaser Safety Courses. Many of our devices are equipped with an "Advanced Scan Fail Safety" system to prevent the emergence of a single beam, which would be extremely dangerous. Laser systems are classified into different "laser classes" according to the IEC 60825 standard. Their classification depends on the laser's power and wavelength and also determines the required safety measures (warning labels, safety precautions and so on).

What is a show laser light?

"Show Laser Light" is another term to describe laser light systems for entertainment purposes. Show laser light systems distinguish theirselves in a very versatile usability: they may be used in- and outdoor, in small locations as clubs, bars, and discotheques as well as at large events as festivals, professional art and cruise ship shows, etc. In impressive multimedia shows show laser lights are usually combined with other media and effects: smoke, fog, video projections, water screens, pyrotechnics, etc. Of course show laser lights and music complement each other perfectly: the laser beams, animations, patterns and texts harmonize to the music and underline their mode. Show laser lights are able to create single as well as multi color effects.

What is a sky laser?

Sky lasers are show laser systems used outdoor to make a certain point visible and exposed from a long distance. The term "sky laser" is mainly used in Europe and America as well as "skylaser" or "sky beam laser" whereas in Asian countries the term "landmark laser" is more common.

Which show laser is the best sky laser?

Regarding the far beam distance which can add up to several kilometers and taking into account the absence of fog and haze, high laser power of several Watts as well as very low divergence is essential. Thus the laser beam will be bright and sharp. This is the reason why OPSL modules suit best for this purpose as they have a better beam divergence in comparison to diode sources.
Furthermore you'll have to consider the beam color. Green laser sources are more visible than others.

For what purpose do I need a sky laser?

Any venue where visibility over long distances is needed. E.g. discos in rural areas or hidden in plain sight between scyscrapers get high attention thanks to high visible showlaser beams in the sky.

What is a show laser?

The term "Show laser" is used to describe laser light systems for entertainment purposes. Show laser systems are very versatile in use and may be applied indoor, for example in small locations as clubs, bars, and discotheques as well as at large in- and outdoor events such as festivals, professional art and cruise ship shows. Show laser systems are able to create single or multi color laser beams, animations, patterns, texts and the like on different surfaces, for example on walls, ceilings, water screens etc. Show lasers may becombined with other media in order to create amazing shows. Very emotionalizing is the combination of show laser lights and music - rhythmic beats are accompanied by different illumination effects that harmonize to the music and underline its mood. By additionally using smoke, fog, video projections or water screens huge and impressive laser shows can be created.

In a show laser, a laser beam composed of one or more colored sources is deflected by two small mirrors attached to very fast-moving motors so quickly that patterns or images become visible to the human eye. The individual colors and color gradations are produced by very fast modulation, which means the control of the intensity, of the individual colored laser sources. White laser light is usually generated by a mixture of laser sources of the colors red, green and blue, but can also be generated by a combination of cyan and yellow.

What is a show lazer?

The term "show lazer" describes laser light systems for entertainment purposes and is used synonymously for the more common definition "show laser". Show lazer systems offer many different applications like indoor use in bar, pubs, clubs, discos and for outdoor events like festivals and amusement parks. Show lazer systems exist with single-color and mutli-color setup. Possible lazer sources nowadays are diodes, DPSS and OPSL. Years ago gas lazers were used quite often but are now not very common anymore.
With show lazers beam shows and graphics shows can be displayed. Beam shows create an effect of being part of the laser show while graphics and animations can tell whole stories with lazer beams on surface like walls, ceilings, water screens and even mountains. Together with water, fire, sound, light and other effects multimedia shows can be created.

Synonyms for show lazer

Corresponding terms are "Laser Display", "Laser light" or even "Laser show" (meaning the laser projector unit here). Sometimes they are also called "Entertainment laser".

Best show lazer systems

It depends strongly on your venue which show lazer light will suit best for your purposes. The bigger the location the more output power is need for better visibility. For displaying graphics and animated pictures your lazer system needs fast scanners with quality drivers. When using your lazer outdoors we recommend either a lazer device IP classification or an additional weather and water-proof housing. There are also lazers that especially creater for text projections or for lighting effects.

What is a Safety Zone?

As show laser systems can be harmful for human skin / eyes, professional laser show software offers the opportunity to set so-called safety zones. Safety zones are areas where the beam intensity / brightness is adjusted to such a low value that even the projection of laser beams into the audience will not be dangerous (=audience scanning).

Creative software applications (video, lighting, 3D rendering, showlaser, etc.) feature a timeline to organize and visualize sequences on a temporal level. Each timeline can usually have several tracks containing media content, effects and more. Depending on the media type, the use and features of a timeline may vary. For example, with laser show software such as "Showcontroller", the timeline is mainly used to create music-synchronized laser shows.

What means TTL modulation?

TTL stands for transistor-transistor-logic and describes a special kind of show laser modulation for laser sources. Laser sources with TTL modulation cannot be dimmed and are only able to turn the power on / off. A regulation of brightness is not achievable.
Laser sources with TTL modulation are mostly integrated in low-priced show laser systems.
Show laser displays with TTL modulated RGB color sources can display seven different colors due to color mixture.

Which colors can my TTL modulated RGB laser system display?

  • white - by switching all colors on;
  • red,
  • green,
  • blue;
  • yellow by mixing red and green;
  • violet by mixing red and blue;
  • cyan by mixing green and blue

What is the opposite - Analog Modulation?

The opposite of TTL modulation is analog modulation: the brightness of every laser source can be adjusted.
See: Definition Analog Modulation

It is no harm to control an analog projector with a TTL signal (or vice versa).
But a TTL laser device can only display seven colors max. Therefore analog signals with fading effects will not work with TTL lasers.

See this video for the differences between analog and TTL modulation

What is a USB laser controller?

A USB controller is a Digital Analog Converter (see the >>> definition of DAC <<<) that converts computer signals into ILDA laser signals. You'll need one, if you want to design your own laser show with a show laser software on your computer and then transfer the data to your laser projector.

What is the benefit of a USB laser controller?

USB laser controllers typically don't need an additional power supply.

What is the benefit of an Ethernet laser controller?

Usually they are more easy operate. Furthermore much longer transmission distances are posssible.

A vector is a geometric object that has length and direction and describes a movement or shift in space. With lasers, vectors describe how the laser beam moves from one point to the next ( similar to the concept of "color by number"). Laser graphics are always created and displayed as vector graphics. This means that a laser graphic is a continuous movement instead of a static "image". As the laser draws a vector graphic so quickly, the human eye sees a whole image. Normally, laser vector graphics are used only for less detailed objects, such as text, logos or icons.

What is a Water Shield?

Water shield is another term for hydro shield. It is a projection surfaces made of water for making laser graphics and effects visible. Water shields emerge water semicircular from the bottom upwards. They consist of a special 180° flat nozzle together with a very strong pump system. It is essential to have a permanent water source, therefore the nozzle may be placed in a lake or the like. Water shields are often used for rear projections and are able to disappear within seconds - an advantage over other kinds of screens.

What is a Water Curtain?

Water Curtain is another term for water screen. As laser graphics projections need any surface to become visible, water is a popular choice. Water curtains consist of a nozzle element with falling waterdrops on which the laser effects are projected. The water ist pumped to the element from a water source. Water curtains are suitable for different kinds of applications, from laser to multimedia shows and are mainly used indoor. Laser combined with water creates amazing three-dimensional effects.
