Rheinlicht Festival Schaffhausen Switzerland
The barriers of light seem to block the passage, but thanks to a safety mechanism built into the devices, viewers can pass through the obstacles of dazzling red light beams unharmed. The immersive installations invite visitors to discover this very special, focused light and to observe up close the dance and rotation of millions of tiny points of light within the aura of the light beam.
In Caged Light, a glass object containing a single laser beam, a fascinating drama unfolds as if on a showcase stage—a small world in which the laser beam, nourished by the mist of the water’s surface, experiences the various manifestations of light. At times it glows brightly and seems to ignite explosively behind the glass; at other times it appears to fade slowly.
The painter and light artist, Margareta Hesse, lives and works in Berlin. Inspired and fascinated by the “immateriality” of laser light, which appears as tangible matter in a fine mist, Margareta Hesse has been developing large-scale, walk-in, interactive sculptures with red lasers since 2008. Since 2008, Margareta Hesse has been featured in numerous solo exhibitions and light art projects in Germany and internationally. Translated with DeepL.com (free version)
