What's the difference between Auto-IP and Static-IP when connecting a computer to ShowNET via LAN/Ethernet?

For most scenarios, we recommend using Auto-IP mode. This means that the computer and the laser automatically synchronize the IP address without the need for additional manual settings. To activate Auto-IP on a ShowNET device with dip switches, set dip switch 6 to ON, while the rest must be set to OFF. On a ShowNET device with display, you can set the IP mode to "Auto IP" via the display.

The use of fixed, specifically assigned IP addresses for the laser or the ShowNET interface and the computer (Static-IP) is common in professional production environments. This prevents IP addresses from being changed accidentally. In some cases, it may also happen that a computer blocks the automatic IP assignment, so that a fixed assignment is required.

To activate Static IP, set dip switch 7 set to ON and the rest to OFF (ShowNET with dip switch) or set the IP mode to "Static IP" via the display (ShowNET with display).
