Add laser output to an audiovisual show workflow

Millumin is a show-conductor platform for audiovisual productions, mapping, lighting and interactive installations.

Its laser layers can send drawings, ILDA files and vectorised pixel media directly to ShowNET alongside the video and lighting elements of a production.

Supported laser output

Millumin and ShowNET

ShowNET is one of the DAC types supported by Millumin’s laser add-on. Create a laser layer, assign it to a configured laser output and send the resulting paths over the network to ShowNET.

Multiple laser layers can target the same projector output, allowing drawings and media to be stacked before output.

Laser layersTreat scanner-based output as a dedicated media layer in the composition.
Network ShowNET outputSelect ShowNET in the Laser Setup window and connect over Ethernet.
Multiple lasersCreate and calibrate more than one output in the same project.
Mapping and correctionWarp the output, adjust colour and compensate for projector orientation.
Laser content

Three ways to feed a laser layer

Millumin applies the layer’s translation, scale, rotation, mapping, opacity and transitions to the resulting laser projection.

Laser drawing

Draw editable vector paths in Millumin and animate their selection and phase parameters.

ILDA files

Import ILDA content into the media library and place it into the audiovisual composition.

Images and movies

Convert pixel-based media automatically into paths suitable for scanner-based laser output.

Output setup

Calibrate each laser for the production

  • Scanner rate in points per second
  • RGB colour adjustment
  • Output delay for synchronisation
  • Horizontal and vertical mirroring
  • Aspect-ratio handling
  • Editable mapping and warping points
  • Test-card output and workspace preview
Basic workflow

From add-on to laser output

  1. Activate the laser add-on in Millumin’s preferences.
  2. Connect the ShowNET device and production computer to the same network.
  3. Create a laser layer and select or add its output in Laser Setup.
  4. Set the scanner, colour, mapping and safety parameters before enabling output.
Integrated show control

Coordinate laser with media and lighting

Because the laser content is part of the Millumin project, it can follow the same dashboard, timeline, transition, interaction and data-driven workflows used by the rest of the show.

About the Millumin software project

Millumin is a software developed by Anomes SARL. The name Millumin is a creation of the two words “my” and “illuminate”. The development of Millumin started in 2010 in a theater and artistic environment, but has evolved to a much more powerful software since.
