Scanner-Safety Version 1.6 20.04.2001 HB-Laserkomponenten GmbH Page The Scanner Safety circuit board is a protective ci rcuit for laser projectors, which are based on mirror galvanometers. The protective c ircuit activates a blanking of a crystal or a shutter to interrupt the laser beam, i n case operating conditions of the laser projector occur, which could be dangerous to the viewer. A laser beam is considered dangerous if it ranges below a certain m inimum speed or if it stagnates. In case a dangerous condition is recognized, the bl anking of the laser projector is activated and as a result interrupts the laser beam . Furthermore, after at least 40 milliseconds, it is possible to activate a mechanic al shutter, whereas it is also possible to set a timer. This shutter should be shu t in a drop out condition and should only be opened during safe operating conditions. Th e Safety circuit board contains an optocoupler, a transistor and a relay with a cha nger and an opener. Light emitting diodes indicate the current condition of the safety circuit board. To enable beam effects with stagnating beams, without causing dang er to the audience, an area in which stagnating beams are not possible, must be de fined. Around this area, it is in turn possible to project stagnating beams. This set ting can also be reversed to only enable stagnating beams in a defined area. The bord er of the defined area can be determined via four potentiometers. The maximum all owed speed within this defined area can be set by a special potentiometer. As regulations in this regard vary in different countries, technical inspection author ities can adjust settings as required. Scanner-Safety Version 1.6 20.04.2001 HB-Laserkomponenten GmbH Page Definition of the area to be inspected: Functionality: The sum of all galvanometer scanner position is compared tothe minimum speed. If the refract positi on of the scanners range within the defined area and if t he actual speed is smaller than the reference speed, t he optocoupler, the transistor and the relay are being activated. The transistor guarantees a turn-off tim e of 30ms, whereas the turn-off time of the relay can b e modified by a potentiometer. 1. Setting instructions: 1.1 Potentiometer: 1.1.1 Y-Scan: With potentiometer the lower threshold in Y-direction (bottom) can be set. With potentiometer the upper threshold in Y-direction (top) can be se t. The Y-Scan LED flashes if the laser ranges outside the defined area. 1.1.2 X-Scan: With potentiometer the lower threshold in X-direction (left) can be s et. With potentiometer the upper threshold in X-direction (right) can be set. The X-Scan LED flashes if the laser ranges outside the defined area. 1.1.3 Speed low: With potentiometer the speed limit of the laser beam within the inspe cted area can be defined. Minimizing graphics an be set countercl ockwise, therefore inspection becomes more tolerant. 1.1.4 Shutter open: With potentiometer the time of activation of the relay can be set. Counterclockwise means faster activation. Scanner-Safety Version 1.6 20.04.2001 HB-Laserkomponenten GmbH Page 1.2 Jumper: 1.2.1 Safe Position in-out: With this jumper the inner or outer defined area of the tetragon can alternatively be protected. 1.2.2 Safe Position on-off: Standard position is on. This jumper is only relevant when using more than o ne safety circuit board to adjust different areas. 1.2.3 Polarity Jumper: With these jumpers the scanned picture can be refle cted in one direction. 1.3 Connector: 1.3.1 10pol plug: This connection is only necessary when using scanne r driver Apollo Professional IV from HB-Laserkomponenten GmbH. Herewith, a ribbon cable is plugged directly into t he first signal on the 10pol plug situated on the scanner circuit board. The ribbon c able must have an 1:1 extension. 1.3.2 26pol plug: This connection is only necessary when using scanne r driver Apollo Professional IV from HB-Laserkomponenten GmbH. Herewith, we use a 20pol ribbon cable which has a 2 0pol socket on one side and a 10pol socket on the other side. The 10pol sockets m ust be connected with the 10pol ScannerSafety connector which is situated on the sc anner circuit board. 1.3.3 9pol Sub-D: Output optocoupler, transistor and relay. When the power supply is set and the laser beam is not within the protected area the relay is being activated and therefore the signal S af_Out is not activated. Y-Pos: Input signal from scanner driver to safety board.
